An Oceanographer/zoologist and scuba-diving instructor, John Maidens is profoundly deaf and a former Producer/Director at the BBC.

He has produced and directed Factual programmes, drama-documentaries and dramas for the BBC, ITV, C4, Channel 5, National Geographic, Animal Planet and Discovery.

Talent spotted by BAFTA; John is an award-winning writer/director. He directed the Peabody winning CASUALTY@HOLBY CITY for the BBC DoNation season, an RTS Best Fiction for short film Caterpillar, a Deaffest Film Festival Best Screenwriter for DOT and a Casualty episode he directed won the 2021 RTS award and was a 2020 Rose D’Or finalist.

He is a member of the RTS West of England Board, the Directors UK Access & Inclusion Committee and co-chair of the Directors UK Disability Working Group. He is also consultant Executive producer for the British Sign Language Broadcasting Trust (BSLBT).
