The Brontës: Sisters of Disruption

Anita Rani presents this exploration of the Bronte sisters and their enduring influence, tracking the impact Anne, Charlotte and Emily have had on millions of readers across the centuries. Partly autobiographical, this new programme traces Anita’s relationship with the Brontes as she heads back to her hometown of Bradford, recalling her first encounter with them at school and her experience of growing up with the stunning landscape of Haworth and the moors on her doorstep. Anita also meets fellow Bronte fans and literary experts to discuss how and why these sisters became ground-breaking ‘literary disruptors’ whose work still feels relevant and influential today.

The exclusive preview of this Sky Arts documentary, produced by Leeds-based Wise Owl Films, will be followed by a Q&A with Anita Rani and producers.

Outrageous

Outrageous is the story of six aristocratic sisters who refused to play by the rules, their often-scandalous lives making headlines around the world. Set against the gathering storm clouds of the 1930s, masked by the decadence, frivolity and lavishness of British high society, Outrageous will bring the full, uncensored story of the Mitford sisters to the screen for the first time – a story of family bonds and betrayals, public scandal, political extremism, love, heartache and even imprisonment. The show explores how and why these women, unwilling to conform, were so ahead of their time – and what drove them to take their very different, complex and often dangerous paths. A family saga like no other, this is the Mitfords as they really were: unapologetic, outrageous and utterly human.

Join us for the exclusive first episode, of this 6-part original drama, a UKTV and BritBox International co-commission, produced by Firebird Pictures; followed by a Q&A with Helen Perry, Head of Drama Commissioning, UKTV; Matthew Mosley, Executive Producer, Firebird Pictures; Joss Agnew, Director, Outrageous and Claire Collins, Costume Designer.

Unforgotten: The Bradford City Fire

This powerful 90-minute documentary commemorates the 40th anniversary of one of football’s most devastating tragedies. On May 11th, 1985, a fire broke out during a match between Bradford City and Lincoln City, claiming 56 lives and injuring many more. Though once headline news, the story of this horrific event has faded over time. This new BBC Two and iPlayer film revisits the disaster through moving first-hand accounts from survivors, bereaved families, and first responders—many speaking publicly for the first time—offering a heartfelt tribute to the resilience and spirit of the Bradford community.

Hosted by Creative Cities Convention, a special preview screening and Q&A will take place at Pictureville Cinema in the National Science and Media Museum, on May 6th. The evening begins at 6:30pm with a screening at 7:00pm, followed by a panel discussion chaired by Shanaz Gulzar (Creative Director, Bradford 2025), featuring director Andy R. Worboys, producer George Grafton, BBC commissioning editor Anna Dickeson, and contributor Matthew Wildman.
